Global experts, youth gather at NSU to discuss agricultural innovation

North South University (NSU), in collaboration with OIC-COMSTECH and the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS), inaugurated the 3rd Youth Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology on Saturday (13 September) at its Bashundhara campus.
The two-day event brings together policymakers, academics, and international experts to highlight the role of biotechnology in strengthening global food security.
Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, Adviser to the Ministries of Finance and Science and Technology, attended as the chief guest. He praised Bangladesh's genome scientists for helping the country achieve food self-sufficiency and stressed the need for greater investment in education, research, and adaptive technologies to secure the future of agriculture.
Ambassador Khusrav Noziri, Assistant Director-General of IOFS, emphasised the importance of international cooperation and the ethical application of genome technology to build public trust. Professor Dr Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH, stated that empowering youth with science and technology is crucial to addressing food challenges.
NSU Vice-Chancellor Prof Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, who chaired the session, highlighted genome editing as a key tool for future food safety and sustainability. Members of the NSU Board of Trustees, including Chairman Aziz Al-Kaiser, also spoke about the university's commitment to advancing research and innovation.
The forum features technical sessions with speakers from Turkey, Malaysia, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, and other countries, offering young researchers opportunities for knowledge sharing and collaboration.
