Foreign dignitaries pay tribute to Khaleda Zia in Mauritius
A condolence book has been opened at the Bangladesh High Commission in Port Louis, Mauritius, following the passing of former Prime Minister, Begum Khaleda Zia, to allow dignitaries and members of the diplomatic community to pay their respects.
The condolence book was open from 10:00am to 1:00pm on 31 December 2025.
Dharambeer Gokhool, President of the Republic of Mauritius; Jean Yvan Robert Hungley, Vice-President of the Republic of Mauritius; and Dhananjay Ramful, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, signed the condolence book.
Several foreign diplomats, including ambassadors and high commissioners accredited to Mauritius, also signed the book to express their condolences.
Those who paid tribute included Fayez M Altemyat, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia; Syed Zahid Raza, High Commissioner of Pakistan; Abir Alam Eldin, Ambassador of Egypt; Irada Zeyalova, Ambassador of the Russian Federation; Craig Halbmaier, Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy; Goran Mandic, Deputy High Commissioner of the British High Commission; Tahiriniaina Juliano Sojarison, Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of Madagascar; and Matlhaba Mogadingwane, First Secretary and Chargé d'Affaires (a.i.) of the South African High Commission to Mauritius.
Former senior officials, including Assad Bhuglah, former Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of Mauritius, were also present.
In his remarks, Dr Zokey Ahad, PhD, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Mauritius, stated that the condolence messages would be preserved in the official records of the High Commission.
Officials of the Bangladesh High Commission and members of the Bangladeshi community in Mauritius also attended the event.
