BIFPCL distributes winter blankets in Bagerhat’s Rampal upazila
As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Limited (BIFPCL) distributed 2,000 blankets on Tuesday afternoon among cold-affected and underprivileged people in Gourambha, Rajnagar, and Hurka unions of Rampal upazila, Bagerhat.
The blanket distribution was carried out in cooperation with the Bagerhat District Administration and the Rampal Upazila Administration.
The programme was held under the chairmanship of BIFPCL Project Director, Ramanath Pujari. Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner, Golam Md Baten, attended the event as chief guest, while Rampal Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Tamanna Ferdousi, was present as special guest.
BIFPCL Chief Finance Officer, Emmanuel Ponraj, and General Manager (in charge), G M Tariqul Islam, along with other officials and employees of the company, were also present. Local representatives, members of the media, and community leaders attended the programme.
Speakers said such humanitarian initiatives play an important role in easing the suffering of poor and distressed people during the winter and help strengthen relations between the organisation and the local community. BIFPCL authorities expressed hope that similar welfare activities would continue in future as part of the company's CSR commitments.
Local residents expressed satisfaction with the quality of the blankets and conveyed their gratitude to BIFPCL, as well as to the district and upazila administrations, for the initiative.
The 2×660MW Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant, implemented by BIFPCL as a joint venture between Bangladesh and India, has supplied electricity to the national grid continuously since December 2022. The power plant generated the highest amount of electricity in the country for two consecutive months—November and December 2025.
By consistently supplying around eight to eleven percent of electricity to the national grid, the power plant is contributing significantly to the country's power generation capacity, as well as to overall economic and social development. The project is also playing a role in accelerating industrialisation and economic activity in the south-western region.
Beyond electricity generation, BIFPCL regularly undertakes community development initiatives, including education support, access to safe drinking water, wheelchair distribution, winter clothing distribution, and free medical services and medicines.
According to the company, a total of 19,000 blankets have been distributed over the past few years. With the distribution of a further 2,000 blankets this winter, BIFPCL reaffirmed its commitment to standing beside cold-affected communities.
