Experts meet at SAARC agriculture centre to advance regenerative agriculture

The SAARC Agriculture Centre (SAC) hosted a virtual regional consultation on promoting regenerative agriculture from August 4 to 6, 2025.
The event brings together representatives from SAARC countries, agricultural research institutes, universities, and international organisations to share expertise and strategies specifically aimed at defining regional priorities, identifying challenges, and facilitating action plans for advancing regenerative agriculture across the region.

He urged SAC to take a leading role in driving regional change.
Dr Harunur Rashid, Director of SAC and chair of the inaugural session, reaffirmed the Centre's commitment to sustainable farming and noted that regenerative agriculture plays a key role in ensuring long-term productivity and resilience in South Asia's food systems.
Special guest Tanvir Ahmad Torophder, Director (ARD & SDF) at the SAARC Secretariat, highlighted the economic potential that regenerative approaches offer and called for a multi-stakeholder framework to expand their adoption.
