Bangladesh hosts first-ever maths and science olympiad for primary students

The Bangladesh Mathematics and Science Olympiad (BdMSO) was held for the first time, exclusively for primary-level students, to inspire curiosity and strengthen their foundations in mathematics and science.
The national round was held on August 22 at St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, with over 200 students from across the country participating. More than 150 students competed in mathematics, while over 100 participated in science. A robotics and drone exhibition, alongside a magic show, added to the day's excitement.
Guests at the event included Brother Leo James Pereira, Principal of St Joseph Higher Secondary School; Sarwat Reza, Country Lead of Cambridge University Press and Assessment in Bangladesh; Jahangir Masud, Principal of Legend International School; Professor Dr Farzana Alam of European University of Bangladesh; and Jannatul Ferdous Sigma, Regional Development Manager of Pearson Bangladesh.
A total of 52 students were awarded in the national round. In mathematics, 4 gold, 9 silver, and 13 bronze medals were awarded to top performers. In the science competition, 5 gold, 9 silver, and 12 bronze medals were given. Md Nabeeh Hossain of St Joseph Higher Secondary School secured the Champion's Trophy in Mathematics, while Syed Ayaan Isa of Lighthouse International School won the Champion's Trophy in Science.
The winners will participate in a national camp and team selection test in Dhaka, from which six students, one each in mathematics and science, will be chosen to represent Bangladesh at the 22nd International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO), scheduled for 4–10 October in Kedah, Malaysia, with 23 countries participating.
Through the collaborative efforts of the Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN), the Society for the Popularization of Science, Bangladesh (SPSB), and supporting partners, the Olympiad marks an inspiring milestone, igniting young minds and setting the stage for future achievements on the global platform.
