New pay scale committee formed for Armed Forces
They are required to submit 25 copies of their recommendations in book format to the AFD by 31 October

The interim government has formed the "Armed Forces Pay Committee, 2025" to determine a new pay structure for members of the army, navy, and air force.
The Armed Forces Division (AFD) issued a gazette notification yesterday (21 August), forming the nine-member committee headed by Lieutenant General Md Faizur Rahman.
The Armed Forces Pay Committee has been instructed to work in coordination and maintain necessary communication with the current National Pay Commission.
They are required to submit 25 copies of their recommendations in book format to the AFD by 31 October.
The committee's mandate is extensive, encompassing a review of the current pay structure, allowances, pensions, and other benefits of all members of the armed forces (excluding civilian officials).
The notification stated that the committee is empowered to formulate its own policies, request information from any state organ, and form up to three separate sub-committees for each service if needed.
The committee has been tasked with recommending a timely and appropriate pay structure that reflects a range of factors.
Key areas for the committee's review include compensation, such as determining specialised pay structures and a method for adjusting salaries in line with inflation.
It will also calculate non-salary benefits like house rent, medical, transport, and festival allowances, as well as monetising service-related privileges and rationalising ration benefits.
Additionally, the committee will evaluate the quality of work to reflect it in the pay scale and re-examine existing pay disparities among the forces to recommend ways to resolve them.
Finally, it will consider the unique nature of military service, including the hardship, sacrifice, life-at-risk duties during peace and war, and the maintenance of high physical and mental standards.
The committee must also take into account the cost of living for a family of up to six people, and expenses for education and health for up to two children.
