DNCC shifts to community-based management for Dhaka’s parks and fields

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is transitioning from a club-based model to a community-based management approach for the management of Dhaka's parks and fields.
This announcement was made by DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz during the corporation's eighth meeting held at Nagar Bhaban, Gulshan.
The administrator emphasized that access to public parks is a fundamental right for all residents of Dhaka. Under the new initiative, parks will be managed by community-based committees, moving away from the existing club-based system. DNCC will not assign new clubs the responsibility of park maintenance.
As part of this shift, DNCC will establish committees comprising local residents to oversee fields and parks across Dhaka, thereby ensuring greater community ownership and access. The responsibility for maintaining Gulshan's Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed Park and Dr. Fazle Rabbi Park has been handed over to the Gulshan Society as part of this initiative.
The administrator reiterated the goal to keep fields and parks open to the general public, stating, "We are moving away from club-based field management and towards community-based management. The parks and fields will be maintained by a committee through the community, ensuring they are always accessible to everyone."
The new approach will involve forming a monitoring committee under the leadership of the Regional Executive Officer, comprising local residents. This committee will oversee the activities and ensure that parks, such as the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Memorial Park, are maintained in accordance with the appropriate rules and regulations. Furthermore, DNCC confirmed that once the current contracts expire, park and field management will no longer follow the club-based model.
