BYD launches sealion 5 dm-i plug-in hybrid SUV in Bangladesh
BYD has launched its new DM-i super plug-in hybrid EV, the BYD Sealion 5, at an event held on 28 February 2026 at International Convention City Bashundhara in Dhaka.
Branded as the "Everyday SUV", the Sealion 5 is aimed at offering practical and more sustainable mobility for Bangladeshi customers ahead of Eid.
The event was attended by Hafizur Rahman Khan, chairman of CG Runner BD Ltd, BYD's national distributor in Bangladesh, and Amid Sakif Khan, managing director of CG Runner BD Ltd, along with customers, media representatives and other stakeholders.
The BYD Sealion 5 uses the DM-i super plug-in hybrid system, combining a 1,500cc engine with an electric motor. The company said the model offers a combined driving range of up to 1,000 km, including up to 71 km in pure electric mode for daily commutes. The SUV delivers a combined maximum power output of 156 kW and maximum torque of 300 Nm, accelerating from 0–100 km/h in 7.7 seconds, it said.
On safety and comfort, the model features seven airbags, the BYD Blade Battery, a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function and an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). The cabin includes a 12.8-inch infotainment screen and a panoramic sunroof.
Imtiaz Nawsher, chief marketing officer of BYD Bangladesh, said, "BYD Sealion 5 represents a shift toward practical and intelligent mobility. Customers today are looking for efficiency, comfort, and long-term value in one complete package. With DM-i technology at its core, the Sealion 5 delivers electric-like driving for daily use while ensuring freedom for longer journeys. It is built for everyday life in Bangladesh—accessible, dependable, and future-ready."
The Sealion 5 will be available in Cosmos Black, Aurora White, Atlantis Gray and Harbour Gray. It is priced at Tk47.90 lakh for the first 500 customers, the company said.
BYD Bangladesh said the warranty package includes eight years or 160,000 km for the traction battery, eight years or 150,000 km for the motor, and six years or 150,000 km for the vehicle.
The event ended with a ceremonial handover of 25 pre-ordered units to customers. Fahmid Ferdous, head of sales of BYD Bangladesh, said, "The BYD Sealion 5 brings together efficiency, cutting-edge technology, and bold design, making it a fan-favorite in this segment. This was made evident by the fact that we got many pre-orders for this model even before the launch, and we expect many more orders based on the demand that we have observed."
BYD Bangladesh said the launch expands its new energy vehicle (NEV) portfolio in the country.
