BUET Vice-Chancellor honoured with BASF award

The Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS), the highest national forum for distinguished scientists and technologists, has conferred its prestigious Fellowship on Professor Dr Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman, Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), during the Academy's 16th Council Meeting.
This significant honour recognises Professor Badruzzaman's remarkable contributions to engineering education and scientific research in Bangladesh and beyond. A distinguished faculty member of BUET's Department of Civil Engineering, he began his academic journey in 1992 with a Bachelor's degree from the prestigious Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, specialising in Environmental Engineering.
Professor Badruzzaman has made notable academic contributions in the areas of modern solid waste management, surface and groundwater probability modelling, environmental management systems, impact assessment, and transportation analysis. For his pioneering work in urban and water resource modelling and its policy implications, he received the Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud International Prize in 2012. In 2019, he was also awarded the Gold Medal in the Product Design category by the Maldives Innovation and Design Society (MIDS).
He has authored a significant number of peer-reviewed scientific publications in reputed journals, establishing his reputation as a leading researcher in environmental engineering. His research metrics include a current impact factor of 425, over 6,073 citations, an h-index of 31, and an i10-index of 48, reflecting the global relevance and academic influence of his work.
Professor Badruzzaman's leadership in scientific and engineering research continues to enrich the field, inspiring a new generation of scholars in their pursuit of knowledge and innovation. He frequently shares his expertise through participation in conferences, seminars, and workshops both in Bangladesh and internationally. He has previously undertaken prestigious visiting appointments at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA and the University of Texas at Austin.
His recent appointment as Vice-Chancellor of BUET is widely regarded as a testament to his academic distinction and dedication to advancing engineering education in Bangladesh.
