BMU vice-chancellor urges humane and world-class medical service
Newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), Professor Dr FM Siddiqui, has pledged a renewed focus on academic excellence, professionalism and patient-centred care, addressing students, staff and faculty during a series of introductory meetings at the A Block auditorium on Wednesday.
During the meetings, Professor Siddiqui described the residents as the lifeblood of the university, emphasising his enduring commitment to teaching and academic mentorship.
He encouraged residents to use this pivotal stage in their training to become skilled, compassionate specialist doctors for Bangladesh and the global community.
He stressed that patients must always be prioritised and provided with the highest standard of care, urging residents to build trust and uphold the university's reputation for clinical excellence.
Professor Siddiqui called on students to aspire to global standards of professionalism, urging them to persevere despite challenges and resource constraints.
He encouraged attendees to transform setbacks into achievements, stating that true meaning in life comes from overcoming adversity.
BMU Registrar Professor Dr Md Nazrul Islam moderated the meeting. Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Md Abul Kalam Azad, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr Md Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Treasurer Professor Dr Nahrin Akhtar, Proctor Dr Sheikh Farhad, Resident Dr Md Shafiqul Islam, and Resident Dr Saiduzzaman also addressed the gathering.
Other attendees included Professor Dr Shamim Ahmed (Dean, Faculty of Medicine), Professor Dr Md Ibrahim Siddique (Dean, Faculty of Surgery), Professor Dr Md Atiar Rahman (Dean, Faculty of Children), Director (Hospital) Brigadier General Irteka Rahman, and Associate Professor Dr Abu Hena Helal Uddin Ahmed (Deputy Registrar, Law).
Speakers urged residents to cultivate empathy, demonstrate integrity, and make full use of their advanced medical training to become exemplary doctors who serve with sincerity and punctuality.
Residents raised concerns regarding the examination system, housing issues, and the need for improved emergency patient services.
Addressing nurses and medical technologists, Professor Siddiqui emphasised leading by example through professional conduct and dedicated patient care.
He encouraged them to maintain a positive attitude and uphold high standards of service in all their duties.
He challenged them to set a national benchmark for excellence, so that BMU's nurses and technologists are recognised as the best in Bangladesh.
Professor Siddiqui also reminded all employees to observe professional dress codes, carry identification, maintain office hours, and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.
