bKash and Bishwo Shahitto Kendro launch book reading programme

Bishwo Shahitto Kendro, with the support of bKash, has inaugurated this year's Nationwide Enrichment (Book Reading) programme by distributing books among the students of St. Joseph Higher Secondary School. This year, a total of 40,000 books will be distributed among the students of around 300 schools across the country.
Bishwo Shahitto Kendro has been conducting book reading programmes nationwide with the vision of nurturing a reading habit beyond textbooks among students to help them become enlightened individuals. To make this endeavour more impactful, bKash has been associated with the book reading programme for 11 years. So far, a total of 427,200 books have been distributed under the programme to 3,000 educational institutions, benefiting over 3.2 million readers.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed, the architect of building enlightened souls and founder and chief executive of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro, during a ceremony at St. Joseph Higher Secondary School in Dhaka.
The event was presided over by Dr. Brother Leo James Pereira, principal of St. Joseph Higher Secondary School. Chief External & Corporate Affairs Officer of bKash, Major General Sheikh Md Monirul Islam (retd), along with senior officials, were also present.
Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed stated, "Anyone who cultivates extraordinary and exceptional qualities will prosper among us, which can be achieved through reading books beyond textbooks. These can include books of stories, books of joy, books of dreams, and books of values. We extend our gratitude to bKash for providing us with these books that help you all become prosperous. If you all thrive and prosper, Bangladesh will progress as well."
Major General Sheikh Md Monirul Islam (retd) said, "In addition to reading regular textbooks, there are many other spheres for gaining knowledge, one of which is the library. A well-resourced library is essential for cultivating enlightened individuals. For 11 years, bKash has supported the efforts of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro by donating books to libraries in various schools nationwide. We take pride in our role in this collective initiative to nurture an enlightened society."
At the programme, a quiz competition was organised for students from classes six to ten. Later, books were handed over to the 40 winners of the quiz programme.
