Banglalink introduces solar power at gazipur data centre

Banglalink is the first mobile network operator in Bangladesh to utilise solar power in its data centre, marking a significant milestone in its sustainability journey.
The operator has installed an 80KW solar power system at its Gazipur Data Centre, reinforcing its commitment to environmentally responsible digital infrastructure.
The system covers 9,000 sq ft of unused rooftop space and will generate approximately 0.13 gigawatt-hours of clean energy annually. This output reduces carbon emissions by 60 tonnes and saves around USD 12,600 each year in energy costs.
Huseyin Turker, Chief Technology and Information Officer of Banglalink, said:"Through this initiative, Banglalink has set a national benchmark for sustainable innovation that will drive significant environmental impact. By harnessing solar energy, we aim to recover the project's costs quickly while contributing to a greener future. Renewability and sustainability must be prioritised across industries to ensure a better tomorrow."
Banglalink conducted extensive site analysis and planning to ensure maximum energy yield and efficiency. This initiative aligns with the Bangladesh Energy Efficiency and Conservation Masterplan 2030 and global ESG standards, strengthening regulatory compliance while enhancing operational efficiency.
Banglalink affirms that the project reflects its broader ambition to integrate sustainability into all layers of digital infrastructure, from network operations to data management and energy usage.
By adopting solar power at its Gazipur facility, Banglalink has positioned itself as a pioneer in green telecom innovation, paving the way for other industry players to follow suit.
