Banglalink enables free calling to help families after earthquake
When a powerful earthquake rattled Dhaka yesterday and people rushed to check on their loved ones, Banglalink stepped in to support its customers during a moment of widespread fear and uncertainty.
As part of its commitment to social responsibility, the operator enabled free calling to all local networks, helping families reconnect when reassurance mattered most.
The announcement was made through Banglalink's official Facebook page and reinforced via SMS alerts to ensure subscribers could reach family and friends quickly. During the complimentary calling window, millions of customers made more than twelve million minutes of outgoing calls across all operators. The gesture drew strong appreciation from customers and stakeholders, many describing it as an act of compassion at a time when the nation needed unity and care.
The initiative aligns with Banglalink's history of standing beside communities during crises. The operator previously provided emergency relief during flash floods in partnership with the Bangladesh Army, and distributed oral saline and drinking water during recent heatwaves, demonstrating a consistent commitment to people-centred support.
Taimur Rahman, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Officer of Banglalink, said: "In a moment of fear for the entire country, our first instinct was to stand beside our customers and the communities we serve. Immediately after the quake, our leadership and Crisis Team assessed the network and ensured the safety of our people, while exploring how we could support our customers. With families desperately trying to reach one another, enabling hassle-free calling felt like the quickest and most meaningful way to help, and we acted on it immediately."
He added: "Seeing millions reconnect with their loved ones reminded us why we do what we do. For us, care means being present when our customers need us the most."
Reinforcing the brand's human-centred philosophy, Chief Marketing Officer Kazi Mahboob Hassan said: "We exist to serve customers, not just operate networks. Every product, every service, every decision begins with a simple question: What do our customers need right now? Standing beside them in times of need is part of who we are, and this is reflected in our slogan 'Banglalink For You'."
Banglalink said its purpose goes beyond technology — it is about being present for people, especially when it matters most.
