Bangladesh mission in Seoul pays tribute on Independence Day
The Embassy of Bangladesh in Seoul marked Independence and National Day 2026 on 26 March with due dignity and solemnity.
Distinguished members of the Bangladeshi community in South Korea—including teachers, students, media professionals, and other expatriates—participated in the day's programmes.
In the morning, Ambassador Toufique Islam Shatil, NDC, hoisted the national flag at the embassy premises alongside mission officials and staff.
In the afternoon, a discussion meeting was held at the embassy auditorium to mark the occasion.
The programme began with a recitation from the Holy Quran. Messages from the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out. A documentary on the Liberation War, produced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, was also screened.
Speakers paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War and to the women who suffered during the struggle. They underscored the significance of Independence Day, emphasising the goal of building a discrimination-free, democratic, and prosperous Bangladesh, and expressed commitment to advancing this vision in unity.
Ambassador Shatil paid tribute to the freedom fighters, the women who endured atrocities, and all who contributed to the nation's independence. He highlighted the "Bangladesh first" foreign policy of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and outlined the current government's continuation of this approach.
He urged all present to support the government's efforts, under the Prime Minister's leadership, to build a modern Bangladesh founded on equality, justice, and democracy.
The ambassador expressed gratitude to expatriate Bangladeshis in South Korea and worldwide for their contributions to nation-building. He highlighted initiatives for expatriate welfare and urged Bangladeshis to seek legal channels for employment in South Korea and for remittance transfers.
The programme concluded with a special munajat seeking eternal peace for the martyrs of the Liberation War and continued prosperity for the country.
