Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh commemorates Independence Day
The Embassy of Bangladesh in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marked Independence and National Day 2026 with due dignity, underscoring the nation's heritage and the expatriate community's ongoing contributions.
Ambassador Md Delwar Hossain inaugurated the programme by hoisting the national flag to the national anthem. He, along with embassy officials and staff, later placed a wreath at the temporary memorial. Various Bangladeshi community organisations in Riyadh also paid tribute by laying flowers at the memorial.
A discussion was held at the embassy auditorium, beginning with the reading of Independence Day messages from the President, the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister, and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Community members Mamunur Rashid and Dr Golam Hasnain Sohan addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of the day. The ambassador then delivered his remarks.
In his address, the ambassador paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for independence and sovereignty, as well as to the women who suffered and the freedom fighters. He expressed gratitude for the role of expatriate Bangladeshis during the Liberation War in raising global awareness and building international support for Bangladesh.
He emphasised the importance of expatriate Bangladeshis representing the nation positively through skilled, honest, and responsible work. He urged the community to uphold the spirit of independence, enhance Bangladesh's image abroad, and contribute constructively to national development.
He also advised Bangladeshi expatriates in Saudi Arabia to exercise caution amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, refrain from sharing sensitive information on social media, and respect local laws and regulations.
The programme concluded with a special prayer for the martyrs of the Liberation War and for the country's continued wellbeing.
