Iran war must end, but Uganda will join if Israel faces defeat: Military chief
“We want the war in the Middle East to end now. The world is tired of it. But any talk of destroying or defeating Israel will bring us into the war – on the side of Israel,” he says.
The head of Uganda's military has said his country wants the war in the Middle East to end but would join the conflict if Israel were at risk of defeat.
Muhoozi Kainerugaba made the remarks in a series of posts on the social media platform X.
"We want the war in the Middle East to end now. The world is tired of it. But any talk of destroying or defeating Israel will bring us into the war – on the side of Israel," he wrote in one of the posts.
In another message, he said, "If Israel needs help, it only needs to ask. Their Ugandan brothers are ready to assist."
He also said Uganda supports Israel because of religious reasons, stating that Christians stand with Israel and quoting a verse from the Bible in a separate post.
Last month, Kainerugaba had also announced that Uganda would erect a statue of Yonatan Netanyahu, the brother of Benjamin Netanyahu, who was killed while leading an elite Israeli force during the 1976 Entebbe hostage rescue operation in Uganda.
His latest remarks have drawn attention as tensions in the Middle East continue, with several countries calling for an end to the conflict while reaffirming support for their allies.
