BGB showcases modern fleet at Independence Day parade
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) marked Independence and National Day 2026 with a showcase of modernisation and professionalism, highlighted by the force's participation in the national parade with its mechanised fleet—the first such appearance in 18 years.
The display was widely praised as a testament to BGB's expanding operational capabilities.
A decorated BGB contingent joined the combined parade at the National Parade Square in Tejgaon, Dhaka, organised by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and managed by the Armed Forces Division.
For the first time, BGB's mechanised fleet participated in the parade, demonstrating the force's enhanced border protection, internal security, and emergency response capabilities. The display featured a helicopter flypast by the BGB Air Wing, anti-tank guided weapons, armoured personnel carriers, riot control vehicles, the Quick Response Force, Rapid Action Team, all-terrain vehicles, and the BGB K-9 dog squad. The event marks a milestone in BGB's ongoing modernisation.
The day began with the hoisting of the national flag at BGB headquarters in Pilkhana and at all BGB units nationwide.
At sunrise, BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui laid a wreath at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar on behalf of BGB. He later placed a wreath at "Seemanta Gourab" in Pilkhana, paying tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War. A BGB contingent also presented a guard of honour.
Wreaths were also laid on behalf of the BGB director general at the graves of Bir Sreshtha Lance Naik Nur Mohammad Sheikh in Jashore and Bir Sreshtha Lance Naik Munshi Abdur Rouf in Rangamati.
The BGB Museum and BGB Zoo in Pilkhana were open to children from 9am to 6pm as part of the day's observance.
Other programmes included special prayers after Esha at BGB headquarters in Pilkhana and at all BGB regions, institutions, sectors, and unit mosques, seeking peace, prosperity, and continued progress for the country and the force.
On 25 March, to mark Genocide Day, special prayers and munajat were offered after Zuhr in memory of those killed during the massacre by Pakistani occupation forces on the night of 25 March 1971.
