BRAC Bank opens cattle haat booths to enable cashless Eid transactions
BRAC Bank has inaugurated cashless Qurbani cattle haat booths at Diabari in Uttara and Kamalapur in Dhaka to facilitate digital transactions during the Eid-ul-Adha cattle trading season.
The digital payment booths are part of Bangladesh Bank's cashless payment initiative. Bangladesh Bank has designated BRAC Bank as the lead bank for Diabari and Kamalapur cattle haats.
At the booths, buyers and traders will be able to withdraw and deposit money through bank accounts and mobile financial services, transfer funds, make payments through Bangla QR and POS machines, open bank accounts instantly, detect counterfeit notes and access agent banking services round the clock.
The booths will enable livestock traders to securely deposit sales proceeds into bank accounts, reducing risks associated with cash transactions. The initiative is also expected to help buyers become more familiar with fast and secure digital payments.
A N M Moinul Kabir, Director, Payment Systems Department-1, Bangladesh Bank, inaugurated the cashless Qurbani cattle haat booth at Diabari in Uttara on 24 May 2026 as the chief guest.
Md Perwez Anzam Moonir, Additional Director, Payment Systems Department, Bangladesh Bank, and Khairuddin Ahmed, Head of Merchant Acquiring, BRAC Bank, attended as special guests.
From BRAC Bank, Dabashish Bhowmik and Zahedul Matin, Branch and Cluster Managers, were also present.
The inauguration ceremony of the Qurbani cattle haat booth at Brothers Union Club Field in Kamalapur, Motijheel, was attended by Md Habibur Rahman, Additional Director, Payment Systems Department, Bangladesh Bank, and Samapti Chowdhuri, Additional Director, Payment Systems Department, Bangladesh Bank.
Under the initiative, buyers and sellers of sacrificial animals will be able to conduct secure, convenient transactions through POS machines, Bangla QR, agent banking, ATM cash deposit and withdrawal facilities, and other digital banking channels.
The initiative aims to promote safe, transparent, and hassle-free transactions during Eid-ul-Adha cattle trading while reducing risks associated with carrying cash, including theft, fraud, and counterfeit currency.
The programme also supports financial inclusion and Bangladesh's broader move towards a smarter and more cashless economy.
Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation are partners of the cashless payment initiative.
