IUB launches English translations of three Nazrul plays
Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) launched a collection of English translations of three plays by national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam to mark his 70th death anniversary.
The university's Kazi Nazrul Islam and Abbasuddin Ahmed Research and Study Centre and IUB Library jointly organised the programme on Thursday (27 August), according to a press release.
The book, "Kazi Nazrul Islam: Three Plays", brings together translations of "Srimanta", "Vidyapati" and "Vishnupriya".

Rabiah Binthe Hossain translated "Srimanta", Zarifa Taneer Chowdhury translated "Vidyapati", and Farhin Tasnim translated "Vishnupriya".
The publication also features English translations of 11 songs from Nazrul's play "Laila-Majnu" by Mayisha Mizan Neeha.
All four translators are students of IUB's Department of English and Modern Languages.
Professor Ahmed Ahsanuzzaman, a professor in the department and director of the Kazi Nazrul Islam and Abbasuddin Ahmed Research and Study Centre, edited the book.
Certificates, prizes, and crests were presented to participants and winners of the Bangla and English essay competitions organised to mark the anniversary.
IUB Board of Trustees Chairman Didar A Husain and Vice-Chancellor Professor M Tamim attended the event.
The programme began with a performance of Nazrul songs by Tahsin Miti, a student of IUB's Department of Law. Professor Ahsanuzzaman delivered the welcome address.
Rabiah spoke on behalf of the translators, while The University Press Limited's Managing Director, Mahrukh Mohiuddin, represented the publishing house.
Nazrul researcher Dr AHM Hayatullah discussed the book, and IUB Librarian Md Shahajada Masud Anowarul Haque delivered the vote of thanks.
Teachers, officials and students from different IUB departments attended the programme.
