Bangladesh delegation leaves for CFAMM in London on 7 March
Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and the prime minister's foreign affairs adviser, Humayun Kabir, are scheduled to leave Dhaka for London on Saturday, 7 March 2026, to attend the 26th Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers' Meeting (CFAMM), officials said.
The meeting will be held on Sunday, 8 March 2026, at Lancaster House in London, bringing together foreign ministers from Commonwealth member states to discuss key global and regional issues.
Samoa's finance minister, Mulipola Anarosa Ale Molioo, is expected to welcome the ministers at the retreat, followed by remarks from Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Botchwey.
The meeting is expected to discuss the Commonwealth's role in a rapidly changing international landscape. For the first time, foreign ministers are likely to jointly outline an action plan for the organisation, sources said. It will be the second meeting between the Commonwealth foreign ministers and Secretary-General Botchwey.
Discussions are also expected to cover developments in member states and broader global challenges, including the war in the Middle East and its wider impact, the sources said.
Sources in Dhaka, New Delhi and London said Dr Khalilur Rahman and India's external affairs minister, S Jaishankar, are also expected to meet on the sidelines of the CFAMM. If held, it would be their first meeting since the BNP formed the government following the 12 February 2026 parliamentary election.
A Bangladeshi diplomat said Bangladesh–India relations should be anchored in people-to-people contacts, not ties between political parties, noting the two countries' shared culture and history.
The two sides are expected to discuss a range of bilateral issues, including the reopening of Indian visa application centres outside Dhaka, the sources said.
The delegation is scheduled to return to Dhaka on 10 March 2026.
