Epson steps up anti-counterfeit drive in Dhaka
Epson has stepped up its crackdown on counterfeiting in Dhaka following coordinated raids by law enforcement agencies that seized over 34,000 counterfeit ink bottles and detained 48 individuals.
The enforcement actions were conducted in close coordination with local authorities across major commercial areas of the capital, including Uttara, Paltan, Mirpur, Savar, and New Elephant Road, reinforcing the crackdown described above.
These operations targeted retail distribution points and a facility dedicated to manufacturing counterfeit Epson consumables and packaging materials.
As a result, authorities confiscated more than 34,000 counterfeit ink bottles and initiated proceedings against entities engaged in manufacturing and selling them.
The raids also uncovered a printing unit producing counterfeit packaging materials, where approximately 47,000 outer boxes and eight printing plates were seized.
Significant quantities of labels and packaging components designed to mimic genuine Epson products were also recovered.
In addition, several individuals linked to these activities were apprehended, and financial penalties totalling more than Tk27.5 lakh were imposed across various locations.
Epson said the enforcement drive significantly disrupted local counterfeit distribution networks in the city.
The company noted that counterfeit printing supplies continue to pose challenges across markets.
For consumers, counterfeit products compromise print quality, shorten device lifespan, and lead to unreliable performance.
For businesses, counterfeiting undermines legitimate trade channels, disrupts partner ecosystems, and erodes brand credibility, the company added.
Epson reiterated that its ongoing collaboration with enforcement agencies underscores its commitment to tackling these risks.
"The continued presence of counterfeit products in the market is a serious concern, as it directly affects customer experience and trust," said a spokesperson for Epson in Dhaka.
"These enforcement actions highlight the importance of sustained vigilance and collaboration with authorities. We appreciate the support of local enforcement teams in Bangladesh and remain committed to decisive action against counterfeit operations," the spokesperson said.
"Ensuring customers have access to genuine Epson products, while supporting our partner ecosystem, remains a key priority," the spokesperson added.
Epson said it will continue to rigorously enforce its intellectual property rights, working closely with stakeholders to limit the sale of counterfeit products and safeguard customer interests.
