BADC stresses region-specific planning to improve irrigation efficiency

Bangladesh continues to expand its irrigated areas, yet irrigation efficiency varies widely across the country's diverse agro-ecological zones, necessitating tailored planning and region-specific action, said Ruhul Amin Khan, Chairman (Grade-1) of the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), today (28 July).
He made the remarks while addressing a workshop titled "Assessment of the Present Irrigation Efficiency in Different Agro-Ecological Zones of Bangladesh", held at the Seminar Hall of Sēch Bhaban, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. The event was organised under the PARTNER project.
Khan reaffirmed BADC's longstanding commitment to agricultural development, stating: "BADC is an agriculturally and farmer-friendly institution with a proud history of supporting farmers' progress."
The workshop reviewed current irrigation practices and efficiency metrics across various zones, reads a press release. Participants—including senior BADC engineers, World Bank representatives, agricultural organisations, and delegates from Bangladesh Agricultural University—shared insights and recommendations for optimising water use.
"The insights gained today will help shape more targeted and effective measures to improve irrigation efficiency nationwide," Khan remarked.
He concluded by urging all stakeholders to act with professionalism, skill, and dedication, reiterating BADC's commitment to bolstering both agricultural productivity and sustainable water management.
