AIUB joins AI for Developing Countries Forum summit in Bangkok
The American International University–Bangladesh (AIUB) participated in the AI for Developing Countries Forum (AIFOD) Winter Summit, held at the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC) in Bangkok, Thailand, from 4 to 6 February 2026.
AIUB was represented by Dr Carmen Z Lamagna, Member of the Board of Trustees and former Vice-Chancellor of AIUB, and Prof Dr Dip Nandi, Associate Dean at AIUB's Faculty of Science and Technology, according to the university.
The summit brought together policymakers, academics, technologists, and development practitioners to discuss AI development that responds to local needs in developing countries, according to organisers.
A panel session titled 'How can developing countries build AI that's truly ours?' was moderated by Prof Nandi. The discussion addressed the global AI divide, including the claim that high-income countries—representing 17% of the world's population—control nearly 87% of existing AI models.
On the sidelines, Dr Lamagna and Prof Nandi met AIFOD founders to discuss academic collaboration aimed at bridging theoretical AI research and practical applications in developing countries. AIUB also cited a campus use case involving approximately 15,000 students, where AI is used to predict short-term energy demand alongside solar energy production to support efficient energy management.
AIUB stated that its participation reflects its commitment to responsible, inclusive, and sustainable AI aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
