AIUB at the QS Higher Ed Summit: Middle East 2025

The QS Higher Ed Summit: Middle East 2025 offered a significant opportunity to drive innovation and build meaningful collaborations across the higher education landscape.

With the theme of 'Society 5.0: Higher Education and Skills for a Human-Centred Future', this year's summit was held in Kuwait, hosted by the Gulf University of Science and Technology, on 20-22 April 2025. Representing American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), Ms Shania Mahia Abedin, a Member of the Board of Trustees, attended the event. Through her participation, she brought attention to the pressing challenges and the potential for growth in higher education in Bangladesh.

The Opening Session, titled 'Setting the Scene', was attended by Mr Ashwin Fernandes, Executive Director (AMESA), QS Quacquarelli Symonds; Mr Jason Newman, Chief Commercial Officer, QS Quacquarelli Symonds; Mr Nawaf Arhamah, Chairman, Gulf University for Science & Technology; Mr Bassam Alameddine, President, Gulf University for Science & Technology; Mr Ghassan Aouad, Chancellor, Abu Dhabi University; and H.E. Prof Dr Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary-General, Association of Arab Universities.

The Opening Panel, 'State of the Region,' explored the transformative shifts reshaping the Middle East's educational and economic landscapes, focusing on maintaining a human-centred approach amid rapid technological and industrial change. Building on the insights from the 2024 summit, it examined recent developments and outlined the region's most pressing challenges, setting the tone for the following discussions. Distinguished speakers included Mr Ashwin Fernandes, Executive Director (AMESA), QS Quacquarelli Symonds; Mr Bassam Alameddine, President, Gulf University for Science & Technology; Mr Ebrahim Al Hajri, President, Khalifa University of Science and Technology; Mr Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, President, University of Bahrain; Ms Aisha

Al Kharusi, Deputy Executive Chairperson, Modern College of Business and Science, Oman; and H.E. Dr Ahmed Bin Saleh Al-Yamani, President, Prince Sultan University. AIUB emphasises its commitment to innovation and collaboration within the evolving educational landscape through this engagement.
