Airport security exercise held at Shah Makhdum Airport
Shah Makhdum Airport has conducted its 'Airport Security Exercise-2025' in accordance with ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) and the National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP), which require every airport to hold a full-scale security drill at least once every two years.
The exercise assessed the airport's preparedness for threats such as hijacking and bomb attacks. In the simulation, the control tower received an anonymous call alleging that a bomb had been placed on a chartered flight (Golf Foxtrot Alpha One Three) travelling from Jashore to Shah Makhdum Airport. Once notified, the airport manager convened the Risk Advisory Group and activated the Emergency Operations Centre. All responding agencies subsequently implemented coordinated emergency procedures.
Personnel from the Bangladesh Army, Navy, RAB, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, APBn, Ansar, Rajshahi Medical College, Islami Medical College Hospital, and the Fire Service and Civil Defence participated in the exercise.
Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA) Chairman, Air Vice Marshal Md Mostafa Mahmood Siddiq, BSP, GUP, ndc, afwc, acsc, psc, attended as chief guest and observed the drill. Air Commodore Md Asif Iqbal, BUP, ndc, afwc, psc, GD(P), Member (Security) of the BCAA, acted as chief coordinator, while Airport Manager Mst Dilara Pervin led the exercise.
In his remarks, the BCAA Chairman thanked all participating agencies and noted that such exercises help identify weaknesses and strengthen inter-agency coordination, ultimately ensuring international standards in passenger service and security. Referring to the 18 October fire at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, he commended the combined efforts of security forces in maintaining order, protecting key installations, and ensuring safe access for fire service units.
He expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness demonstrated and urged all agencies to continue performing their duties with sincerity and dedication in the national interest.
The event was attended by SM Lablur Rahman, Member (Administration) of the BCAA, Mohammad Nazmul Haque, Member (Finance), BCAA officials, representatives of participating agencies, and members of the media.
