ACME’s DiaCare announces 7.5km diabetes awareness run
Registration has opened for the 7.5-kilometre "Emlino DiaBeat Run", which will be held at Hatirjheel in Dhaka on 14 November to mark World Diabetes Day and promote diabetes awareness and healthy lifestyles.
The event is open to health-conscious people, who can register through the organisers' designated link, according to a press release.
ACME's DiaCare, an initiative of The ACME Laboratories Ltd, recently organised an event to announce the run and discuss the role of regular physical activity in preventing and managing diabetes.
The ACME Laboratories Ltd Chairman Nagina Afzal Sinha; Managing Director Tasneem Sinha; Additional Deputy Managing Director Md Hasibur Rahman; and Deputy Managing Directors Tanveer Sinha, Sabrina Juned and Jahanara Mizan Sinha attended the programme.
Executive Director of Sales and Distribution Md Ferdous Khan; Head of Marketing and Senior General Manager Mohammad Ziauddin; and ACME's DiaCare Senior Manager Md Mahbubur Rahman also spoke at the event.
Welcoming the initiative, Tasneem Sinha shared practical experiences of how diabetes could affect daily life and how regular walking could help people manage the condition.
Dr Uzzwal Kumar Mallick, a long-distance runner and founder and administrator of Doctors Run, represented the medical community at the event.
"Diabetes is a long-term health condition that can largely be kept under control through the right lifestyle and physical activity," he said.
"At least 30 minutes of walking or jogging daily significantly reduces the risk of diabetes, and marathons of this kind will inspire ordinary people to step outside and become active," he added.
Experienced members of the running community also participated in the programme and shared their experiences.
Mehedi Hasan Noyon, who has completed a 200-kilometre ultramarathon, stressed the importance of physical activity in preventing long-term illnesses.
"Keeping the body active is the first requirement for preventing any long-term illness. This marathon, organised to raise diabetes awareness, will have a positive impact on society," he said.
AKM Ahsan Ullah, founder and administrator of Dynamic Runners InterBD, and Md Masum of Ultra Camp Runners also addressed the event.
The organisers said the Emlino DiaBeat Run would encourage the public to adopt active lifestyles while raising awareness of diabetes prevention and management.
