Flight operations on international routes from Chattogram's Shah Amanat International Airport will be resumed from July 6 after more than three months.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the regular flights on international routes had been suspended since March 26.

The first flight will leave Shah Amanat International Airport at 1.45 pm on July 6.

Initially, it was supposed to go to Dubai and then Abu Dhabi directly from Chattogram.

But now for the time being, all flights of Biman Bangladesh Airlines will first go to Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport from Chattogram.

"Passengers from Chattogram will leave for Dhaka by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines at 1:45 pm on Monday and from there, they will fly to Dubai and Abu Dhabi by another flight of the airlines with a capacity of 261 passengers at 7:00 pm," Imrul Hasan, Biman Bangladesh Airlines' acting manager at Shah Amanat International Airport, told The Business Standard.

"A total of four flights will be operated on Chattogram-Dubai and Chattogram-Abu Dhabi routes every week. All flights will be operated by Dreamliner aircrafts with a capacity of 271 passengers," he added.

Bangladesh Biman is scheduled to operate international flights on the two routes from Chattogram on July 6, 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, 16, 19, 20, 22, 23, 26, 27, 29 and 30.

Though the first flight from Chattogram to Abu Dhabi was scheduled to start on July 8, it was cancelled, said Imrul. The next flights of the routes will follow the schedule.

"The Immigration Department will check whether the passengers of international flights are free of Covid-19 or not. In addition, maintaining of the Covid-19 health guidelines will be ensured," said Wing Commander ABM Sarwar E Zaman, manager of Shah Amanat International Airport.

According to Biman Bangladesh Airlines sources, before the coronavirus outbreak, the airlines operated flights from Chattogram four days a week on Chattogram -Abu Dhabi route and three days a week on Chattogram -Dubai route.

Besides, Bangladesh Biman is starting three flights from Chattogram on domestic routes from July 5.

Earlier on June 1, the airline was scheduled to operate a domestic flight from Chattogram but it was cancelled due to the shortage of passengers.
