CMP stands beside Coronavirus-hit newspaper hawkers

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has distributed relief among destitute newspaper hawkers' families in the port city affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Deputy Commissioner (south) Mehedi Hasan of CMP handed over the food items to the leaders of hawkers association at Shoronika Community Centre in the Chattogram city.

Responding to a call from Chattogram Metropolitan Police to stand beside the helpless people, Kabir Steel Re-rolling Mills Ltd (KSRM), a concern of the Kabir Group of Industries, provided the assistance for the hawkers' families.

The relief items of KSRM include 7 kilogrammes of rice, 2 kilogrammes of potatoes, 1 kilogramme of onions, lentils 1 kilogramme, 1-litre oil, 500 gram salt and 500 gram garlic.

"As a lot of people from different professions have become unemployed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are just trying to support them anyway we can," said Deputy Commissioner (South) Mehedi Hasan of CMP.

He further said they came to know that one thousand newspaper hawkers have become unemployed due to the Covid-19 shutdown.

"More industrial groups have also responded to our call. In the future, more relief will be provided among helpless people from different professions," Mehedi Hasan said.

"Since the outbreak of the pandemic, KSRM has extended support to the people from all professions, as it is a part of our social responsibility," said Media Advisor of the KSRM Minhazul Islam.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Shah Md Abdur Rauf of CMP (south) and Chattogram Press Club general secretary Chowdhury Farid, were, among others, present at the programme.
