The country first ride-sharing company Pathao has undertaken an online charity donation programme to provide financial assistance to its riders and delivery agents throughout the month of Ramadan.

Pathao authorities said this donation campaign styled "Pashe achhi – Pathao er gontobyer sathider sohojogita pounchhe dite" (We are by your side -- to reach support to the destination partners of Pathao) would be a Facebook-based event.

An official of the company said Pathao workers are going through tremendous financial hardship due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Pathao has initiated this programme to stand by these people, he said, adding if anyone wants to donate to the cause may do so by clicking on the link mentioned on the event page or by calling 13301.

The official said they have set a target to raise Tk10 lakh through this campaign.

"We will be simultaneously disbursing the donations every week throughout Ramadan. Delivery agents and riders with the highest numbers of rides, and those who have stayed with Pathao for long are the most deserving of the support."

"The financial assistance shall be distributed through the bank accounts of the several Pathao riders and delivery agents," he added.

Hussain M Elius, chief executive officer of Pathao, said, "We are very hopeful about this initiative because funds raised through this programme will be used directly for the welfare of workers who are tirelessly working to move Bangladesh forward."

The daily Ittefak and The Business Standard are the media partners of this campaign, Radio Dhol 94.0 FM is the radio partner, and bKash is the mobile financing partner.

Meanwhile, organisations such as Cholo Shobai, Obhijatrik Foundation and Uthshorgo Foundation Bangladesh are helping Pathao implement this initiative.

Pathao is the largest ride-sharing, e-commerce and food delivery platform in Bangladesh. It has helped to empower thousands of people towards self-employment and improving their lives.

Pathao is also the first ride-sharing platform to be recognised by the government under the Ride Sharing Guidelines 2018.

Hussain M Eliussaid said, "We are determined to ensure safety and make a positive impact on the lives of people at every socioeconomic level and are continuously working with the motto of moving Bangladesh forward.
