Young man, teenager brutally tortured

A young man and a teenager were brutally beaten up allegedly by some local influential people on suspicion of a mobile phone theft in Char Bhabanipur area of Mymensingh Sadar on Thursday.

A video, recorded on a mobile phone, shows that the young man named Foyzal and teenager Rakib are being beaten mercilessly.

Both of them live in Char Bhabanipur area.

It is also seen in the video that Golam Mostafa, a resident of the area, slapped a local woman when she protested the incident.

On Wednesday, a mobile phone of Golam Mostafa's daughter was stolen.

The next morning, a group of local people led by Golam Mostafa brought Foyzal and Rakib to the spot, where the torture took place.

Then they beat up the duo with bamboo from morning to afternoon.

When our correspondent talked to Golam Mostafa in this regard, he denied the allegation.

Sofir Uddin, brother of Golam Mostafa, who was also allegedly involved in the incident, said they did not beat anybody.

They just interrogated Foyzall and Rakib, he said. Later, they called police and the police arrested one of them, he added.

Foyzal's mother Fatema Akter said, "My son had been tortured brutally. No one is protesting against it because the people, who have done this, are influential. I want justice for my son."

Mohammad Shah Alam Badsha, a member of Sirta union parishad of Mymensingh Sadar Upazila, admitted that he was present at the scene.
But he said no one was beaten. He claimed that Foyzal and Rakib were professional thieves.

On the other hand, Firoz Talukder, officer-in-charge of Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station, said, "We are trying to arrest those who are involved in the incident."

However, this type of torture is not new in the country. Here are some media reports on this type of incidents.

Daily sun on December 26th, 2019, reported that an Awami League leader in Cumilla tortured a youth in front of his mother.
