Video messages of Hadi murder prime suspect under examination: DMP commissioner
The DMP commissioner said maintaining law and order ahead of the upcoming national election remains the police force’s top priority.
Police are examining two video messages reportedly released by Faisal Karim, the prime suspect in the murder case of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Osman Hadi.
"We have received the two video messages from Faisal and are currently scrutinising them. We cannot comment at this moment. We will speak after verification," Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Sazzat Ali told reporters today( 3 January).
He made the remarks while speaking at the A4 Bashundhara Paper CRAB Best Reporting Award-2025 ceremony held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).
The DMP commissioner said maintaining law and order ahead of the upcoming national election remains the police force's top priority.
Urging journalists to act responsibly, he said inaccurate or exaggerated reporting could harm police personnel and undermine public trust.
Referring to the recent reshuffle of officers-in-charge (OCs), Md Sazzat Ali said the process was conducted through a lottery system and added that the police continue to operate within their limitations.
"If we can keep law and order under control for the next 40 days, it will be possible to hold a fair election," he said.
Regarding the security of election candidates, the commissioner said those facing genuine threats are being provided with armed protection following verification by the Special Branch (SB).
He also said security for election commissioners has been strengthened.
Pointing to manpower constraints, he said, "If we deploy police everywhere, who will guard the polling centres?"
The DMP commissioner further claimed that incidents of mugging and other crimes have declined in the capital and sought public cooperation to maintain the improved situation.
