Two men claim to be the father, court orders DNA test

Two people are claiming to be the father of a child, and have filed a case over the issue at the Dhaka Family court.

Judge Shafia Sharmin passed an order on Thursday to have a DNA test of the child done to identify the father.

Mofijul Islam, filed a case at court for custody of the five-year-old child named Tasneem Ar Raffi, who was born on December 11, 2014.

He said Raffi is his child from his marriage with Khadija Kubra alias Shabana on March 26, 2004.

He also said that she later eloped with a man named Rashel Shikder, a staff member of a grocery shop in Barishal, six months after Raffi was born.

Shabana submitted a divorce paper at the court which showed that she had divorced Mofijul Islam on February 15, 2011 and had married Rashel Shikder on August 26, 2011.

She claimed that Raffi is the son of her second husband Rashel Shikder.

However, Mofijul said that he paid all the expenses for his wife Shabana's treatment and check-ups at Ibne Sina Hospital during her pregnancy, from April 5 to December 13, 2014.

He submitted all the documents and the birth certificate of the child from the hospital at court.

He also alleged that Shabana left his house in 2015 taking money and gold without informing him, and started living with her second husband Rashel Shikder in Barishal.

However, Shabana submitted the birth certificate of the child issued by the Barishal City Corporation at court.

The court asked Ibne Sina Hospital to present all the test and treatment documents of the delivery.
