Grameenphone, Robi launch 5G service
This is the first time that 5G network services have been launched commercially in the country

Top mobile operators Grameenphone and Robi Axiata Limited commercially launched 5G services today (1 September), marking the first time the next-generation network has been available in the country.
Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman announced the launch of 5G services on the company's official Facebook page, while Robi officially inaugurated its services at its corporate office in Dhaka today (1 September).
"This is a proud moment for Grameenphone as we launch 5G services across all divisional headquarters, delivering transformative technology to the people of Bangladesh. With 5G, we are introducing a faster, more reliable network while opening the door for possibilities in innovation, entrepreneurship, and smart solutions that will shape the nation's future," said Yasir Azman.
He stated that this milestone advances the operator's mission to connect people to what matters most, driving progress, productivity, and boundless opportunities nationwide.
"We are thrilled to lead the way in building this future. We congratulate our customers on becoming a part of this journey towards a brighter future—as everything we do, we do it for them," he added.
At Robi's event, Shish Haider Chowdhury, secretary of ICT Division, said, "Launching 5G technology is an important milestone in Bangladesh's journey forward. It is not just about faster connectivity, but about opening new opportunities for economic growth, employment, education, healthcare, and the development of smart cities. This technology will prepare our people to actively participate in the digital world of the future."
BTRC Chairman Major General (retd) Md Emdad ul Bari said, "With the launch of 5G, the country's telecom sector has entered a new horizon. We expect operators to use this technology responsibly to deliver maximum benefit to the people."
M Riyaaz Rasheed, acting CEO of Robi Axiata PLC, said: "This rollout will play an important role in taking Bangladesh's digital economy to the next stage. For the first time, our customers can experience — hands-on — what the future of connectivity looks like."
