A truck carrying rods overturned on the Meghna Bridge, blocking the Dhaka-bound lane and creating significant delays for commuters on one of Bangladesh's busiest highways.

What happened:

  • The incident occurred around 6:30am this morning (18 April) on the Dhaka-bound lane of the bridge.
  • Eyewitnesses reported that the truck, overloaded with rods, suffered a wheel malfunction, leading to its overturning.
  • The spilt rods further obstructed traffic, causing vehicles to move slowly, creating a long queue.
  • The traffic jam has now stretched to the Bhaberchar bus stand in Munshiganj's Gazaria portion of the highway.
