In a bid to tackle traffic congestion and reduce the sufferings of passengers, the Cox's Bazar Police have introduced an 'Online Bus Terminal' service.
It will be used as a modern bus management initiative by the district's police and traffic division. Passengers can access the platform at www.obtcoxsbazar.com, according to police officials.
"By using this platform called Online Bus Terminal, any passenger including tourists can collect tickets of their choice from any part of the country," Cox's Bazar Police Superintendent Md Rahmat Ullah said on the occasion at the Sugandha point of the beach town.
"Besides, it will be possible to improve the quality of passenger service, strengthen safety and ensure a fair traffic system by ensuring the supervision of the drivers and the accountability of the owners along with the fitness of the buses," he added.
He stated that every day thousands of people, including a large number of tourists, travel to the beach town of Cox's Bazar.
"Cox's Bazar has bus routes with at least 40 districts. Almost 800 buses of different transportation companies ply the district's roads every day. But there's parking space for only 70 buses in the Central Bus Terminal," the police official said.
He also stated that the bus operators have 25 ticket counters in Cox's Bazar.
"Illegal parking, dropping and picking up passengers arbitrarily, traffic congestion, traffic mismanagement, the suffering of passengers and tourists is a daily picture here, " said Rahmat.
