To ensure smooth travel ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, 18 kilometres of the 48-km long Dhaka Bypass Four Lane Expressway was temporarily opened for traffic yesterday (17 March).

This road is expected allow easy travel from Bhogra Bypass in Gazipur to Purbachal in the capital.

Suman Singh, project manager of the Dhaka Bypass Four Lane Expressway construction project, said vehicles will be able to ply on the road without any toll for five days before and five days after Eid.

"For the first time in Bangladesh, modern Chinese technology has been used in the construction of the Dhaka Bypass Four Lane Expressway. It is semi-rigid pavement technology, where no bricks are used. As a result, it will be more durable than the conventional asphalt road and the maintenance cost will be relatively lower. In addition, there will be no possibility of damage to the road due to waterlogging or rain," Sumon said.

According to project sources, the construction of the 48-kilometer expressway from Bhogra in Gazipur to Madanpur began in 2021. With a cost of Tk3,500 crore, the project is scheduled to be completed in December 2025.

Once the expressway is fully operational, vehicles from North Bengal will be able to go directly to Chattogram and Sylhet regions without entering the capital.
