'Today or tomorrow, Palestine will be free': Shibir stages demo in Shahbagh protesting Israel's interception of Gaza flotilla
Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir organised a rally in the capital today (2 October) protesting Israel's interceptions of the Global Sumud Flotilla vessels and to express solidarity with the humanitarian mission carrying aid to Palestine.
The rally, organised by the Dhaka Metropolitan unit of the organisation, began at 5pm from Science Lab, marched through various streets, and concluded with a brief assembly at Shahbagh intersection.
The programme was jointly conducted by Helal Uddin, president of Dhaka Metropolitan South, and Hafiz Abu Taher, president of Dhaka Metropolitan West.
At the rally, Chhatra Shibir's central Office Secretary Sibgatullah said, "A barbaric genocide in history is taking place in Palestine. Already, countless women, men, children, and the elderly have been killed. Their fundamental rights, including food, healthcare, and all human rights, have been stripped away."
When international human rights bodies and humanitarian organisations try to send aid in solidarity with Palestine, they are not being allowed to deliver it, he said.
"At a time when the nations of the world should be extending cooperation, they are instead opposing. We condemn such heads of state."
Sibgatullah further stated, "Not only Muslims, but people of all religions and communities stand beside the oppressed people of Palestine. We, too, from Bangladesh, are on their side and express our full solidarity. Today or tomorrow, Palestine will be free."
