The Business Standard (TBS) on Wednesday celebrated its number 1 position among all business dailies in the country and the first anniversary of its publication with a day-long programme on its office premises.

Dignitaries and guests from different organisations joined the colourful programme at its Eskaton Garden office in the capital from morning to evening to greet the country's fast moving newspaper.

Praising the TBS team, Zareen Karim, chairman of the Horizon Media Limited, said "We feel proud when people appreciate the contents of TBS and read the newspaper regularly."

She urged the TBS team to ensure credibility while making a report on any company or person and institute.

"When we read a report, the first thing that comes into our mind is the credibility of that news. So, when TBS writes a report, it should ensure 100% credibility," she said.

Congratulating staff members and the management of TBS, Salman Obaidul Karim, managing director of Orion Group and director of Horizon Media Limited, said, "Thanks to Allah that we have reached a very good position in one year, even though the journey was hindered by many obstacles including the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The team should try to bring up new things each and every day. We should never be satisfied that we have done the best. We should keep going ahead, otherwise the graph will come down."

He expressed hope that TBS will take journalism in Bangladesh to a new height.

TBS Editor Inam Ahmed said the journey to becoming the number one business daily was an unimaginably tough task that was done with team work.

Standing at the 1st anniversary celebrations, he thanked the readers, well-wishers, and team members of the newspaper.

"We promise to bring to you even more exciting properties, both print and digital, in the next year," he said.

TBS Executive Editor Sharier Khan, Zeysha Fashionwear Limited's Managing Director Mehadi Hasan, TBS Managing Editor Khaled Masood, Deputy Executive Shakhawat Liton, Deputy Editor Aminur Rashid, Chief News Editor Harun-ur-Rashid and Head of Feature Mubin S Khan, among others, spoke at the programme.

The programme commenced with a pitha (cake) festival and ended with a music event participated by its employees.

The day-long event was also attended by representatives from different banks and non-banking organisations.

Pran-RFL's Director (Marketing) Kamruzzaman Kamal and his team, Eastern Bank's head of corporate affairs Ziaul Karim, AB Bank's head of corporate affairs Tania Sattar, and representatives from Dutch Bangla Bank and Berger Paints congratulated TBS by joining the ceremony.

Apart from this, representatives from IDLC Finance, Anex Communication, Forethought PR, Concito PR, Info Power and Media Quest joined the programme to greet TBS.

Meanwhile, the Chattogram bureau of TBS also arranged a day-long programme to mark the first anniversary of the publication of the newspaper. People of different walks of life in the port city joined the event.

The progress of the newspaper amid the hard times during the coronavirus pandemic has overwhelmed readers, said people who came to extend their wishes at the anniversary celebrations organised at the Chattogram bureau office of TBS on the day.

Awami League mayoral candidate in Chattogram City Corporation election and joint secretary of city Awami League M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said, "TBS is playing a leading role in providing objective news. A group of fearless and young journalists working with this newspaper are bringing to the fore many news of the country's economy that remain out of our sight."

Former mayor and general secretary of city Awami League AJM Nasir Uddin also extended greetings to TBS.

Mentioning that the newspaper has been able to create acceptance among the readers in a short period of time, he said this is the difference between TBS and other newspapers.

He also hoped that the business daily will play an important role in achieving the goal of building a middle-income and developed Bangladesh.

Mohammad Mohsin, vice chairman of PHP Family, said, "TBS has been exceptional since its inception. This is because the newspaper presents good news very nicely. Again, it presents bad news in a way that it makes us feel good to read."

Almas Shimul, additional managing director of GPH Ispat, said, "TBS is our newspaper. The daily has been maintaining the standard of journalism since its inception. I hope they will continue to make progress in the future.

"At the same time, I would expect the newspaper will maintain objective journalism."

Shahriar Jahan Rahat, deputy managing director of KSRM, said TBS has been able to bring a brand new look and feel among English newspapers in the country. "More foreign people are living and working in our country now than ever before. The newspaper is making a great contribution to uplift the image of the country to them. I hope TBS will go further to keep the media transparent and constructive."

Congratulating TBS on its first anniversary of publication, Syed Mohammad Tanvir, director of Pacific Jeans Group and the Chattogram Chamber, said the newspaper has created a new trend in the world of newspapers and journalism. "I hope the newspaper will go further in the coming days."

Sharun Chowdhury, director of Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry Director, said, "I wish you for stepping into the second year with success, popularity and innovation. The initiative taken by TBS to present news through infographics is really commendable. The newspaper highlights the problems, possibilities and solutions in business through analytical and ethical journalism."
