Student organisations will jointly observe "National Unity Week" in educational institutions starting today in order to foster unity and harmony among students.

Hasnat Abdullah, a key coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement made the announcement at an urgent meeting that was called yesterday evening to address the recent incidents of conflicts in the country's educational institutions.

The meeting was attended by 18 student organisations, including BNP's student wing Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal, Islami Chhatra Shibir, and Chhatra Odhikar, among others.

The student bodies were asked to carry out the programme under their own banners.

During the meeting, it was discussed that ongoing unrest in campuses is being exacerbated by individuals who do not belong to the student community.

For example, recently, members of the Chhatra League were seen participating in the auto-rickshaw drivers' protests, which raised concerns, said Hasnat.

Hasnat Abdullah said, "Fascist forces are attempting to create discord among students by funding these efforts from abroad. Through this programme, we aim to establish unity and solidarity among the students."

However, there were no representatives from the Bangladesh Students Union and Biplobi Chattra Moitri.

When asked about the matter, Hasnat said, "We have different political views. It's normal. But when it comes to issues surrounding fascism, we are united."
