Sports to be compulsory in curriculum from 2027, with 100-mark exam: State minister

Sports will be made compulsory under the new curriculum from 2027, with a 100-mark examination to assess students' knowledge and practical skills, State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque said today (25 August).

A textbook covering sports will be introduced from Class 4, with a 40-mark written examination and a 60-mark practical test on the field, he said while speaking as the chief guest at the final and prize-giving ceremony of the Munshiganj District Administrator's Gold Cup.

"From football and cricket to the eight events included in the first edition of the 'Notun Kuri Sports' programme, the book has been written based on those events," the state minister said.

"There will be a 40-mark written examination based on the book and a 60-mark examination on the field. A student will not be able to pass without securing the required marks," he added.

He said the initiative was aimed at giving sports the same importance as academic studies while ensuring children grow up healthy and stay away from drugs.

The government is also identifying talented athletes from across the country and providing them opportunities at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Pratisthan (BKSP), he said.

The state minister also called on people, regardless of political affiliation, to work together for the country and its people.

Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi chaired the programme. Munshiganj-3 lawmaker Kamruzzaman Ratan attended as a special guest.

District Police Superintendent Menhazul Alam, District Council Administrator AKM Eradat Manu, Munshiganj municipality Administrator Mousumi Mahbub and local political figures were also present.
