Speech-impaired woman gang-raped in Bhola while returning from religious event
A woman was allegedly gang-raped by three youths while returning home last night (22 February) from a religious programme "kirtan" in Tazumuddin upazila of Bhola.
She is currently undergoing treatment at Bhola Sadar Hospital, confirmed Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tazumuddin Police Station Abdus Salam, saying that a case will be filed as soon as the victim's physical condition stabilises.
"We are conducting raids to apprehend the accused," the OC added.
Locals rescued the woman in a critical condition and initially rushed to the Tazumuddin Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty Residential Medical Officer Dr Samsul Islam said they provided primary care and referred her for advanced treatment."
According to local residents, the woman, who has a speech impairment, had attended a kirtan at a temple in the area.
At around 9pm, she boarded a battery-powered autorickshaw to return home. The vehicle was reportedly occupied by two other youths along with the driver.
Locals alleged that when the vehicle reached the Dhopabari area, the men dragged her into a nearby garden and raped her.
Some residents found her there in critical condition earlier today. The suspects fled the scene.
