Police today (28 March) arrested six people in a case filed over the gang-rape of a woman in Chuadanga's Alamdanga upazila.
Confirming the matter, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ruhul Kabir Khan said the woman will undergo a medical examination and provide a statement under Section 22.
"After completing the legal process, the arrested individuals will be produced in court," he added.
The arrested include Kabita, Mizan, Samad Ali, Adam Ali, Shahjahan, and Abdus Salam.
According to the case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, Kabita befriended the victim and persuaded her to travel by e-rickshaw to Borobazar in Chuadanga district town on 25 March.
There, Shahjahan, Samad, Adam, Mizan and Abdus who were waiting at the location, allegedly threatened the woman with local weapons.
The perpetrators then took the victim to a mango grove, where they assaulted her in turns, according to the case statement.
The victim was later returned to the bazar and reported the incident to her husband, who urged her to file a formal complaint the same day.
Following the complaint, Chuadanga police launched a rapid operation, arresting all six suspects from their homes early this morning, according to police.
SP Ruhul described the case as "extremely heinous" and said, "Our rapid and continuous operation ensured the arrest of all involved within hours.
"The police are taking all legal measures to bring the perpetrators to justice. Chuadanga Police will maintain a zero-tolerance policy against such crimes."
