Comprehensive security protocols are also being prepared for all political parties ahead of the upcoming national polls and referendum
Highlights:
- Election security protocols being prepared for all political parties
- Attackers on Hadi identified; arrests underway
- Border checks intensified and several suspects placed under surveillance
The government said it has put in place special security measures for prominent political figures, especially those who played leading roles in the July Uprising.
In a statement issued today (14 December), the government also noted that comprehensive security protocols are being prepared for all political parties.
These guidelines will clearly outline safety measures for political leaders and prospective candidates, covering security at their residences and offices, movements, public meetings, and activities in cyberspace, said the statement.
The move follows the recent gun attack on Inquilab Mancha leader Sharif Osman bin Hadi, a prominent figure of the July Mass Uprising.
Meanwhile, police said they have identified the attackers and their associates involved in the gun attack on Hadi. Operations are underway to arrest the suspects.
The motorcycle used in the attack has been seized, and forensic examinations, including fingerprint analysis, are ongoing.
"To prevent the prime suspect from fleeing the country, photographs and other relevant information have been circulated to all immigration checkpoints. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) patrols have also been strengthened along the border," said the statement.
It also noted that although the suspects' locations have been traced multiple times within the country, arrests have yet to be made due to their frequent changes of location.
Police have also collected the travel history of the main suspect, which indicates he has travelled to several countries in recent years as an IT businessman, with the latest trip to Singapore on 21 July.
Several other individuals suspected of involvement in the attack have been placed under surveillance as investigations continue, said the statement.

Osman Hadi, an aspiring independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency in the upcoming polls, is currently undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. He has not yet been declared out of danger.
The shooting took place at around 2:24pm on Friday (12 December) in the Old Paltan area of the capital. An assailant fired at Osman Hadi from a motorcycle that had been following him from behind while he was travelling in a battery-powered rickshaw.
