Govt announces Tk50 lakh bounty for information leading to arrest of Hadi attack suspect
It came hours after the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) released a photograph of one Faisal Karim Masud and sought information from the public about him.
The interim government has announced a Tk50 lakh reward for information leading to the arrest of one Faisal Karim Masud, also known as Daud Khan, who is suspected to be involved in the gun attack on Inqilab Mancha Spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
The announcement was made by Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury this afternoon (13 December) after an urgent meeting of the law and order core committee at the Secretariat.
It came hours after the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) released a photograph of Faisal and sought information from the public about him.
In a press release signed by Deputy Commissioner Talebur Rahman, DMP requested citizens to provide any relevant information regarding the suspect.
According to police sources, after reviewing CCTV camera footage from the Inqilab Cultural Centre and from the scene of the attack, as well as other available information, police believe Faisal to be the prime suspect.
The DMP urged anyone with information about the person, or who may spot him, to inform the police immediately by calling 999 or via the following mobile numbers: 01320040080 (DMP deputy commissioner for Motijheel) or 01320040132 (Paltan Police Station OC).
Hadi, who was aiming to contest the national polls from the Dhaka-8 constituency, was on a rickshaw when he was shot in the head in broad daylight in Dhaka yesterday (12 December) by motorcycle-riding assailants, who fled the scene immediately.
Hadi was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition. After immediate surgery and treatment, he was moved to Evercare Hospital for better medical care.
Doctors have said that Hadi remains critical due to severe brain injury after being shot, and his prognosis cannot be determined until 72 hours pass.
The shooting, just a day after the schedule for the 13th national election was announced, has triggered widespread condemnation and heightened concerns over law and order.
