The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said social media posts claiming 33 BGB members have gone missing while on a mission in the Naf River are "baseless".
In a post on its verified Facebook page yesterday (22 March), the BGB said only one BGB member have gone missing and a rescue operation is ongoing.
"A false propaganda is being spread on various social media platforms that 33 BGB members have gone missing while on a mission in the Naf River. This information is baseless and purposeful," the BGB said.

"The real incident is that a boat carrying Rohingyas was illegally entering Bangladesh by sea near Paschimpara Ghat on Shah Porir Dwip in Teknaf in the early hours of 22 March when the boat capsized due to strong currents. Upon receiving the information, the BGB members on duty near the beach immediately rushed to rescue the Rohingyas along with local fishermen and were able to rescue 24 Rohingyas alive.
"During the rescue operation, due to rough seas and the dark night, a BGB member possibly slipped and went missing at sea," the BGB added.
