BGB member injured in Bandarban landmine explosion dies after 20 days
He had been undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka since 13 October, after being airlifted there from Ramu Cantonment for advanced treatment.
 
A member of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), who was critically injured in a landmine explosion along the Tumbru border in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban, died today (31 October) after 20 days of treatment.
The deceased, Md Akhtar Hossain, was a member of BGB's Cox's Bazar 34 Battalion and a resident of Bhola district.
Confirming the death, Lieutenant Colonel SM Khairul Alam, commanding officer of BGB's Cox's Bazar 34 Battalion, said Akhtar had been undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka since 13 October, after being airlifted there from Ramu Cantonment for advanced treatment.
"Akhtar Hossain succumbed to his injuries around 11am today while undergoing treatment," Lt Col Khairul Alam said.
He added that the body has been kept at the CMH morgue in Dhaka and will be flown to his home village in Bhola on tomorrow morning. He will be laid to rest there with full military honors.
Earlier, on the morning of 12 October, a BGB patrol team came under a landmine explosion reportedly planted by Myanmar's rebel group Arakan Army in the Tumbru border area under Ghumdhum union of Naikhongchhari.
