Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Nayek Md Akhter Hossain, who lost his left foot in a land‑mine explosion along the Tumbru border in Naikhongchhari, Bandarban, was flown to Dhaka today (13 October) for advanced treatment.
Akhter, from BGB's Cox's Bazar 34 Battalion, was patrolling the Ghumdhum union border yesterday when a mine planted by Myanmar's insurgent Arakan Army went off. The blast severed his left ankle and left his other leg badly injured.
He was rushed to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Ramu Cantonment, where doctors stabilised his condition and advised his immediate transfer to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
A BGB helicopter carried him to Dhaka CMH this afternoon, said Colonel Mohammad Mohiuddin Ahmed, sector commander of the BGB Ramu unit.
According to BGB and locals, Myanmar has planted numerous landmines in the no-man's land along the remote hills and dense forests of Naikhongchhari. Landmine explosions frequently occur in the area.
Since 2023, 16 people have been injured in landmine explosions in the border area, including three respectively in 2023 and 2024, and ten up to August 2025.
