Skill development authority engages industry in boosting tourism and hospitality skills
The meeting focused on aligning curricula, training materials, and assessment frameworks with industry needs

The National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) held a stakeholder consultation in Dhaka today with representatives from the Tourism and Hospitality Industry Skills Council (ISC) to discuss skills development, industry linkage, and employment opportunities.
According to a press release, the meeting focused on aligning curricula, training materials, and assessment frameworks with industry needs, strengthening apprenticeship opportunities, and promoting formal employment of skilled workers. Strategies to sustain ISC activities were also emphasised.
Speaking as the chief guest, NSDA Executive Chairman Nazneen Kauser Chowdhury emphasised the importance of providing tourism and hospitality workers with dignified employment through skills-based training and certification.
She also encouraged coordination between ISCs and NSDA, and suggested industry support via CSR contributions.
Industry representatives, including ISC Chairman Mohiuddin Helal and Vice Chairman Khabir Uddin Ahmed, stressed the sector's demand for diverse skills, from language proficiency to driver-tour guide expertise, and called for incorporating Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies into training programs.
The consultation aims to build a skilled workforce in Bangladesh's tourism and hospitality sector, develop an internationally standardised skills ecosystem, and increase the sector's contribution to foreign exchange earnings.
The workshop was presided over by Md Johar Ali, NSDA member (Administration & Finance) and the joint secretary. Senior NSDA officials, along with directors and members of the Tourism and Hospitality ISC, were also present at the event.
