Malaysia targets 300,000 Bangladeshi tourists in 2026: Envoy Shuhada Othman
Responding to questions about Bangladeshi travellers being turned back at Malaysian immigration, he said the e-Visa system is “systematic and straightforward” as long as applicants use official channels
Malaysia aims to attract around 300,000 Bangladeshi tourists in 2026 under its 'Malaysia Truly Asia – Visit Malaysia 2026' campaign, the Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Mohd Shuhada Othman, said today (6 December).
"Bangladesh remains one of Malaysia's strongest and fastest-growing tourist markets," he told reporters at the launch of the Malaysia Tourism Fair at the Intercontinental Dhaka.
At the event, the envoy also launched Festival Malaysia and the promotional campaign for Visit Malaysia Year 2026. He said the initiative aims to deepen tourism ties and welcome more Bangladeshi visitors.
Responding to questions about reports of Bangladeshi travellers being turned back at Malaysian immigration, the envoy said the e-Visa system is "systematic and straightforward" as long as applicants use official channels.
He urged Bangladeshi citizens to apply directly through the official e-Visa portal, the link to which is regularly shared on the High Commission's Facebook page.
"A lot of problems arise when third parties apply on behalf of applicants," he said. "It is important to provide original and accurate documents. Any discrepancies can lead to blacklisting."
He added that the High Commission remains ready to assist travellers: "Please feel free to reach out to us for advice."
He finally thanked event partners including Intercontinental Dhaka, the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and Tourism Malaysia.
"We would like to welcome all our Bangladeshi friends to Malaysia," he said, adding that the gala dinner and festival aim to showcase Malaysian culture, hospitality and travel experiences
