Shahbagh blockade hampers timely entry of DU admission test candidates
The university’s Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed told The Business Standard that special consideration was given to the candidates due to the situation.
Entry of examinees to the Dhaka University (DU) Science Unit admission test was delayed today (27 December) due to a blockade at Shahbagh in the capital.
The admission test was scheduled to begin at 3:30pm, but many candidates were seen entering examination centres even after the stipulated time. Some examinees were observed rushing into the centres as late as 10 minutes after the test had started.
The university's Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed told The Business Standard that special consideration was given to the candidates due to the situation.
"We are allowing students to enter the examination halls even if they arrive up to 15 minutes late," he said.
Shams Tarek Aziz Mahi, a fourth-year student of the university's Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, said he accompanied his younger brother to the exam centre.
"While leaving, I saw two candidates crying in confusion as they were late. I took them on my motorbike and managed to drop them off about 10 minutes after the exam began," he said.
Earlier in the day, activists of Inqilab Mancha returned to the Shahbagh intersection, resuming their sit-in shortly after BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman concluded his visit to the grave of the platform's slain leader Sharif Osman Hadi.
The protesters, who had spent the previous night in a sit-in at the intersection, had temporarily shifted their position to the Aziz Super Market area at around 9:30am to facilitate Tarique's visit and maintain security.
